Porsche
has recently released early details about its next new sports car, the
Cayman,
although its debut is half a year away. Named for a South American
alligator, the all-new Cayman is based on the
Boxster
but features its own distinctive styling. The new sport coupe has
curvaceous rear fenders, fog lamps integrated into the front air
intakes, unique side air intakes, an automatically extending rear
spoiler and dual tailpipes. The rear hatch slopes smoothly down to the
rear spoiler, and covers a rear storage area twice the size (9.2 cu.
ft.) of that found in the Boxster. Power for the Cayman S comes from a
3.4-liter flat six-cylinder engine teamed with the same 6-speed manual
transmission found in the Boxster S, but enhanced for the Cayman with
shortened and more precise shift travel. Output is rated at 295
horsepower with 255 lb-ft of torque, good enough for a 0-60 time of
5.1 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph, according to Porsche. |
